I began writing, “Prabhupada’s Coming,” in 1987.

Hopefully they will help stimulate your love and appreciation for Srila Prabhupada, his family and the missionary spirit embraced during a happier time. The high regard with which I write of my God brothers and sisters of that era is not to imply that devotees of my generation were in some way better than those of subsequent generations-many devotees from newer generations are equally dedicated and hard working and their devotion to Prabhupada is inspirational-rather, I simply beg to share some of my memories. It’s this mutual love for him that moves me to reflect on those times with the deepest admiration and affection for all the devotees who were there, who shared the experience and who accepted me as a brother. Truth be told, we had our share of problems and personality clashes, but somehow we managed because of our mutual love for Srila Prabhupada. “Prabhupada’s Coming” was written to reflect my impressions of the time His Divine Grace was physically with us. However, if we help each other remember our spiritual master and the wonderful times we had serving him, I’m confident we can turn things around. Many of us have drifted away to some degree, and it’s a great tragedy. Over the years I’ve drifted away from devotional practices I once followed. PrefaceĪlthough I joined the Krsna consciousness movement many years ago, I can’t honestly say I’ve been a devotee a long time.

South Indian, North Indian and a variety of snacks in their restaurant known as Bhaja Govindam. The hall has a huge parking area for more than 1000 cars! Keeping in mind the love for food of Delhiites, Delite has a restaurant also, which serves a variety of cuisine i.e. To stand tall in the changing times of multiplexes, Delite converted into a multiplex by adding one more screen which was named Delite Diamond. To battle with Delhi’s scorching heat, ACs were installed with 100 per cent power backup. Latest equipment for projection, sound and screening were imported from USA including the latest Dolby digital sound system. Huge amount of money was invested to give it a five star ambience while maintaining its facade of heritage building without compromising of viewers’ comfort. It may boast of a rich legacy of theatre and the golden era of early 60s however, it has kept pace with time and got modernised with high technology during early 2000s. The live performances were staged by Prithvi Theatre, which was mentored by late Prithvi Raj Kapoor. Initially, the hall exhibited movies as well as staged performances in those times. The hall used to be the first air-conditioned cinema of North India. It opened on Apas the tallest building of town on the most expensive piece of land, which used to be sold on the basis of each sq yard in comparison to other areas where vast tracts of land were sold in acres. Talking about luxurious multiplexes, among the first names which come to the mind is Delite Cinema located at Asaf Ali Road near Daryaganj. And why not? They all provide state-of-the-art facilities and comfy seatings to the cinemagoers which gets people hooked to them as much as box office success to the Khan-trio starrer movies.Īlthough the ticket rates are on a higher side, but only a few care? We just want popcorn and chicken burger to relish larger-than-life presence of our favourite stars! When we talk about cinema halls in Delhi, all we think about are swank PVRs, Waves and Satyams.
